Al Kingsley MBE · About

Thirty years, one thread.

Education and technology, since the early nineties. Running the company that builds the tools, chairing the boards that buy them, and writing down what both sides taught me. K4 Consulting is where that experience goes to work for other people.

The work.

Most people in education technology have sat on one side of the table. I’ve spent three decades on both.

I’m CEO of NetSupport, the software company I’ve helped build since the early nineties, whose tools are used in classrooms in more than a hundred countries. At the same time I chair Hampton Academies Trust in Peterborough, and I’ve served as a school governor and trust chair for more than twenty years. I chair BESA’s EdTech advisory group, and I’m a Fellow of the RSA.

That combination is the whole point. When I advise an EdTech business, I know what their product costs to build and what a trust board will actually say about it. When I host a conference or chair a panel, I’ve usually done the jobs of half the people in the room. And when a CEO wants a sounding board, I’ve carried the same decisions myself.

The writing.

Nine books so far, from My Secret #EdTech Diary to The Awkward Questions in Education, covering technology, governance, school growth and the questions most people avoid asking. Alongside them sit a regular Forbes Technology Council column, pieces across the UK education press, and a weekly newsletter.
